Rehabilitation of sewer manholes, Municipality of Velsen, IJmuiden, The Netherlands

Project: Rehabilitation of sewer manholes
Location: IJmuiden, Santpoort-Noord & Velsen-Zuid
Client: Insituform
Contract Duration: 30 days

Scope of Works:
• Rehabilitation of 49 sewer manholes

Project Description:
A large sewer pipeline network at the municipality of Velsen was rehabilitated with a trenchless renovation technique called CIPP(Cured In Place Pipe). The manholes were also targeted for rehabilitation to ensure a long service life (>50y) for the total sewer system in this project.
Fibrwrap Nederland B.V. was able to make the best technical and cost effective proposal for rehabilitating the sewer manholes and was granted the contract as subcontractor to the main contractor (Insituform). The total project included 49 sewer manholes in Velsen-Zuid, Santpoort-Noord en IJmuiden.
The project entailed the injection of low foaming polyurethane grout as sealant, then the repair and restoration of the surface area of the manholes and finally the application of the Tyfo® HCR (High Chemical Resistance) Epoxy coating to the concrete surface to provide a durable, cost effective solution with reduced future maintenance cost and long term protection to (bio)-chemical gasses and liquids that exist in these environments.
The whole project was completed in 30 days on time and budget.
