Structural rehabilitation of sewer manhole Municipality of Zuidhorn, The Netherlands

Project: Structural rehabilitation of a sewer manhole
Location: Grijpskerk, The Netherlands
Client: Municipality of Zuidhorn
Contract Duration: 2 days

Scope of Works:
• Structural rehabilitation of a manhole to accommodate a continued use of an incoming pressure pipeline originating from a nearby industrial terrain

Project Description:
The rehabilitated manhole suffered from leakages and concrete surface deterioration due to mild levels of H2S. This H2S gas buildup came from an incoming pressure pipeline. If this situation would have continued, it would have caused high replacement cost and social economic disturbance in the long term. Firstly the connecting pipes were turned off and the concrete surface was prepared thoroughly. Then the specially designed Tyfo®WP
Epoxy was used as a primer at the wet substrate for bonding purposes to our Tyfo®Fibrwrap® System. This system consists of two layers of glass fiber Tyfo® SEH-51A saturated with Tyfo® S Epoxy. Lastly the Tyfo®HCR (High Chemical Resistance) Epoxy coating was applied to the FRP surface to provide a durable, cost effective solution with reduced future maintenance cost and longterm protection to (bio)-chemical gasses and liquids that exist in these environments. The whole project was completed in only two days.
