Emergency Repair of 48” PCCP RWR of Arcerlor Mittal Dofasco, Canada
Project: Arcerlor Mittal Dofasco
Location: Canada
Client: ArcelorMittal Dofasco
Contract Duration: 5 days
Scope of Works:
• Emergency Repair of 48” PCCP RWR (re-circulating water return line)
Project Description:
Arcelor Mittal Dofasco is the largest steel and iron ore manufacturer in Canada. The 48” PCCP RWR (re-circulating water return line) is a critical production pipeline. RFTC inspection revealed 14 spools ashaving ‘severe’ distress. These were targeted for repairs. As 9 out of 14 sections run under the #1 Caster building, a no-dig FRP repair was the most suitable compared to slip lining or tendon repair. After due diligence, Fibrwrap was selected to perform the structural repair using patented and proven ‘wet lay-up’ process during the December shutdown.
A 40’ x 60’ heated centre tent was erected at main access plus to smaller tents/shelters at 2nd entry and air ventilation port. A detailed hourly schedule was drawn and teams were assigned 24/7 schedule. Progress meetings were held every 12 hours. The job started on a blustery Sunday Dec. 5th evening and was completed Friday Dec. 10th.
