Structural Strengthening of Bay Ferries Beam, St. John, New Brunswick

Project: Structural Strengthening of Bay Ferries Beam
Location: St. John, New Brunswick, Canada
Client: Bay Ferries
Contract Duration: 2 weeks

Scope of Works:
• Structural repair of two ninety linear foot damaged beams

Project Description:

Fibrwrap Construction Inc. repaired two damaged beams from a collision with a vessel at the Bay Ferries Terminal in St. John, New Brunswick. The incident took place some years before the need for repair due to corrosion and obvious concrete deterioration.
All loose concrete was removed and the exposed rebar was treated prior to concrete crack repair with Tyfo® 111 epoxy injection and restoration of the cross section with special concrete repair mortar.
The pre-stressed concrete beams were then strengthened by application of the Tyfo® Fibrwrap SCH-41 Carbon fiber system with SW-1 epoxy, both in the longitudinal and in the stirrup direction.
The full scope of the project was successfully completed in only 2 weeks.
The execution of the works did not interfere with the normal everyday activities of the terminal.
