Structural strengthening of Quentin Road Bridge, Illinois, USA

Project: Structural strengthening of Quentin Road Bridge
Location: Illinois, USA
Client: Dept of Transportation

Scope of Works:
• Structural strengthening of beams – upgrade of flexural capacity

Project Description:
The Quentin Road Bridge spans the Arlington Heights branch of the Salt Creek. The owner wanted to improve the flexural capacity of the bridge by 45 k-ft at the edges and 5 k-ft per foot of width of slab between the edge beams.
The owner chose and specified a fiber wrap solution to be applied to the underside of the structure. He specified a maximum design strain of 0.004. The specifications called for a UV protection and had to be of high solids Urethane paint for applications within 10 feet of the high water line. Two layers of carbon strips were installed on the underside of the structure. They were anchored at the ends using fiber wrap anchors.
The proposal by Fibrwrap® included the adhesion and panel testing as part of the scope.
