Structural Rehabilitation of MacKay Bridge, Nova Scotia, Canada

Project: Structural Rehabilitation of MacKay Bridge
Location: Nova Scotia, Canada
Client: Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission
Contract Duration: 3 days

Scope of Works:
• Rehabilitation of corroded members (PT cable)

Project Description:
The A. Murray MacKay Bridge locally known as "the new bridge" is the second suspension bridge linking the Halifax Peninsula with Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and opened on July 10, 1970.
The bridge is comprised of post-tensioned concrete bridge decks supported by abutments & two piers.  There was a location where post-tensioning cables were damaged due to corrosion.
Fibrwrap Installations provided a turn-key solution by installing the Tyfo® SCH-41 System.  Because of freezing temperatures, the installation area had to be controlled by an easily erected enclosure and heaters were set in place to allow the system to cure.
The overpass remained in operation during the quick, cost-effective Fibrwrap installation.  The Tyfo®  Fibrwrap® installation was completed  in a few hours  and helped expedite the project as this approach to the MacKay Bridge is located at a very busy section into the city.
